Dolomites - UNSECO Natural World Heritage site
Unique and therefore worth protection...
South Tyrolean's have known about the unique beauty of the Dolomites for a long time – according to extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner these are the most beautiful mountains in the world. Verdict of the UNESCO in June 2009:
The Dolomites are unique from a geological, botanical and landscape point of view, and are therefore not comparable to any other mountain range in the world. Also the variety of the flora with more than 2,400 types of plants and the vast natural landscape of the Nature Park were emphasised.
In Tires al Catinaccio you enjoy the most beautiful view of the
Catinaccio Mountain,
Sciliar,
Wuhnleger,
Carezza, and
Bletterbach are not far either.
Highlight Alpenglow
The renowned
alpenglow at sunset is due to the mineralogical composition of the Dolomites. During the alpenglow the rock walls turn red, orange and dark violet with increasing intensity.
